What support is available?

Research funding

A minimum of $1,500 p.a. is available to support your research and can be spent on things like travel to a conference or consumables you might need to carry out your research.

Laptop

Every Research Higher Degree candidate at the University of Newcastle is issued a new laptop when they commence their studies. If you complete your degree the laptop is yours to keep. Further details are available click here.

High-quality supervision

Our supervisors are committed to guiding you through your program. They will provide advice and offer direction and encourage you to perform at your best. They will empower you to do your research independently and will provide critical feedback on your work.

Seminar series

We run regular seminars on key topics such as confirmation and thesis writing. These seminars are free to attend and you are encouraged to take advantage of what's on offer, particularly if you are facing hurdles or procrastinating.

Make friends though Community Connections

The University's community connections program is offered to all international students and their families. The Community Connections Program is a cross cultural friendship program through which volunteers from the local community link with international students from all levels of study. International students join this program to meet people from the community and to broaden their Australian friendships. The program allows students to learn more about Australian culture and customs, while sharing information about their home country with others.
