Library Extensions

As the campus gets bigger the library needs to grow. We’ve received funding from the government’s Better Universities Renewal Fund (BURF) to extend the library, opening it up to the quadrangle and create more activity in this area.

What’s happening?

  • 24 hour Information Common on ground floor
  • 90 more computers
  • More spaces for laptops (power and wireless)
  • 4 extra group study rooms
  • More printers
  • More quiet space
  • More lounges
  • Easier access to bigger physical and virtual collections
  • Quadrangle refurbishment

How long will it take?

We expect the library extension to be completed by the end of 2011.

What about the noise and disruption? Will the library be open when I need it? What areas will be affected?

The library will be open throughout the renovations. Most of the work will happen at the front near the quadrangle so there have been some changes to the way you enter the library. We hope to limit noise and disruption as much as possible. We’ll also try to offer alternatives such as an information service in the I.T. studies lab.

Where can I get updates on what’s happening?
